Research and planning: example of a "bad" trailer

This is an example of a horror trailer that would be bad for us to look at when making our own trailer. It is seen as bad because of a few reasons;
  • First of all, even the opening graphic sequence seems to advanced for us to try and emulate, the opening sequence from Insidious seems a lot more suitable.
  • Even the location / mise-en-scene is unsuitable, it seems to be set in an industrial warehouse with lots of blood everywhere and people chained up. This is too gory for what we decided to go for based on audience research, that told us our audience prefer creepy horrors.
  • As well as the location being unsuitable the weapons are too. For example the gun on a reel and a bat with nails through it, in our trailer we are looking more towards a farmer with a shotgun.
  • However with practice I think that we could create similar sounds, which would be great for us because they seem professional and definitely creates a creepy atmosphere.
  • Another reason that this trailer isn't suitable because it is too short. It is more of a teaser trailer than the full length trailer that we decided to aim for.
  • However something else we could take from this trailer would be the character outfits along with some elements of the story. Because these aspects of the trailer are suitable to our trailer.
Now that I have analysed the "good" and "bad" trailers I know what aspects we can take from the different trailers for our own.
